Inspiration & Process

No matter the medium - Wood, Metal, Ceramics, Glass, Granite or Terrazzo - the creative process almost always begins with an observation in nature or the human condition. These are inextricably linked as one continually influences the other.

When the seed of an idea plants itself in my mind, I may begin to sketch it onto paper or dive straight in with the materials which will facilitate the realization of the ideas. Yet the creative process is fluid and many modifications are made along the way. Hence, a playful attitude to working, with the ability to change course midstream is important in the making process. To this end, working everything out in a predetermined way on a computer for instance, can take away the magic that my hands can create.
